Circuit Breaker Technician

Location: Saskatchewan, Canada

About This Opportunity: 

Shermco is currently seeking a Breaker Shop Technician to support operations within our Saskatchewan team. This hands-on role involves servicing, repairing, and remanufacturing low, medium, and high-voltage electrical apparatus and breakers in a shop environment. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and eager to develop technical expertise through on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Overhaul, retrofit, rebuild, remanufacture, service, troubleshoot, and test a wide variety of low, medium, and high-voltage electrical equipment, including:

    • Circuit breakers (e.g., GE, Westinghouse, Powell, ABB, ITE, Eaton, etc.)

    • Switchgear and electrical panels

    • Motor control centers (MCCs), contactors, and associated apparatus

  • Disassemble and assemble components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards

  • Conduct inspections and diagnostics to identify faults or performance issues

  • Perform repairs using appropriate tools, testing equipment, and technical documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and equipment status

  • Support general housekeeping and organization of the breaker shop, including inventory control and workspace maintenance

  • Participate in training and hands-on learning to enhance skills and technical knowledge

  • Ensure all work meets required quality, safety, and compliance standards

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school certification is an asset

  • Mechanical or electrical background preferred; experience in electrical apparatus service a plus

  • Familiarity with low, medium, and high-voltage systems considered an advantage

  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, manuals, and schematics

  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and mechanical aptitude

  • Willingness to learn and perform duties to a high level of competency

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in an industrial shop environment

  • Strong work ethic, team orientation, and commitment to safety

Additional Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

  • Valid driver’s license preferred
