We are seeking an experienced Field Services Supervisor - Acceptance Testing & Commissioning to provide field leadership, technical oversight, and safety supervision on high-voltage electrical projects across the province.

 

The Role:

The Field Services Supervisor is Shermco’s senior on-site authority for acceptance testing, specialty services, and field execution. This role combines hands-on technical leadership, crew supervision, and site safety authority on energized and de‑energized utility-class electrical sites.


The Supervisor is responsible for directing field crews, ensuring work is performed safely and in accordance with engineering standards, mentoring technicians, and serving as the primary technical interface with client representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead field crews performing high‑voltage acceptance testing and commissioning (4 kVAC to 500 kVAC)
  • Oversee testing activities including insulation resistance, power factor/tan delta, ratio, current injection, and functional testing
  • Provide leadership for SF₆ gas handling and transformer oil processing activities
  • Supervise equipment installation and erection witnessing; identify and escalate non‑conformances
  • Lead pre‑job planning, daily site coordination, and field execution
  • Act as site safety authority, establishing Limits of Approach and enforcing safe work practices
  • Mentor and develop field technicians; provide technical guidance and performance feedback
  • Ensure accurate completion of test reports, site documentation, and safety records
  • Represent Shermco on-site with professionalism, technical accuracy, and safety leadership

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in high‑voltage electrical testing, commissioning, or maintenance
  • 3+ years in a senior, lead, or supervisory field role
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • High‑voltage acceptance testing
    • SF gas handling
    • Transformer oil processing / OTP operations
  • Education or trade background in one or more of the following:
    • Electrical Engineering Technology diploma
    • Red Seal Electrician with HV experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (asset)
  • Professional designation (ASTTBC or EGBC) considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices and field supervision
  • Valid BC driver’s license and ability to travel within British Columbia
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications & Assets

  • Experience with:
    • Doble, Omicron, Megger, or equivalent HV test equipment
    • SF gas handling systems and gas analysis instrumentation
    • Oil quality testing (BDV, IFT, Karl Fischer, acidity)
  • Formal supervisory or mentorship experience in utility or field services roles
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering standards and reliability best practices
  • Experience working on remote or logistically complex sites
